Introducing our Road Safety Partnership Group

Inspired by the enthusiasm of our P6/5 JRSOs (Junior Road Safety Officers), and the brilliant teaching initiatives of Ms Devine, we have convened a new partnership group between pupils, staff, parents, local councillors and our lollipop man, Willie. The pupils have come up with a clever slogan, “Safe, Slow, Stockbridge” which perfectly conveys our mission to help make Stockbridge’s roads safer for all.

Mindful of our unique location, and all the benefits and challenges of living in a bustling community, we want your help to influence road safety in Stockbridge.

We are very proud to announce that Stockbridge Primary came a fantastic 9th out of 151 Scottish Schools in the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel Sustrans big Walk and Wheel competition before Easter holidays, and 52nd out of over a 1000 schools in the UK. Well done to our P6/5 JRSOs and to Miss Devine for leading with this.

Safe Slow Stockbridge Campaign

Our poster and banner campaign launches on 28th April- we want to influence safe speed limits, driving and parking in our community. Featuring lovely images made by pupils from across the school, our Safe Slow Stockbridge campaign is a friendly reminder to all drivers to stick to the 20 mph speed limit and help make Stockbridge streets safer and more pleasant for all. In a bustling community like ours, there is an ever-present risk of child vs vehicle incidents. Research shows that the slower cars are travelling, the less serious any injury will be. We’d like to thank Stockbridge and Inverleith Community council for their support with this. We will be also surveying our families about their routes to school and using the information gathered in a mapping exercise to identify places where our pupils feel more unsafe and to understand why this is.

We also want to share the fascinating things we have been learning about kids’ brain development and capacities, as well as offering support in navigating the balance between protecting kids and encouraging independence. Look out for a coffee morning on this topic.

Parent Council are keeping a record of any road incidents – near misses included – so please do fill in the form on our website https://stockbridgeparentcouncil.wordpress.com. You will find it under Useful Info and Documents. And if you’d like to get in touch with ideas or enquiries, we have a new email address:

We would love to hear from you!
